Cardiovascular Classes
NIA (Knee-ah)
A great cardiovascular class done traditionally barefoot. Your body will explore the joy of movement. The
unique combination of Yoga, Tai Chi, Dance & Martial Art will raise your heart-rate and tone your entire body.
Your mind and body experience self-expression as you enjoy moving to vibrant music. Lot’s of fun and will
put a smile on your face!
Belly Dance
A playful class with scarf’s and belts and what a workout! Be creative with your mind and body while you
raise your heart rate with fun and dance. Your mind will become clearer and your body more expressive. A
must to try for all levels!
Cardio Move Mix
A fun combination of good old floor aerobics, a bit of Cardio Kick Box and lots of fun! The moves are simple
to follow and the workout is fantastic! Flash back in time with the aerobic and be expressive with the discipline
of Martial Art. A great combination!
Hip Hop
This class is very aerobic and great for the abdominal muscles. Be ready to move your shoulders and pelvis
together and experience a fantastic workout! You will need a towel as this is a fantastic workout to experience.
Your body will become expressive as you create an “attitude.
Strength Training Classes
Body Shaping
The class intent is on the entire body. Each instructor has his/her own style using weights, bands, Dyna Bands, poles and/or a Fit ball.
The choice of weights is optional. Smaller weights enable more repetition in some of the classes. Abdominals are added with a focus
on all areas of the abdominal areas.
Abs-Butt-Thighs
A fantastic workout for all those problem areas. Be prepared for clear definition of thighs and gluteus muscles. Abdominals are firmed
by working all parts with some serious crunches. Ankle weights are provided but optional. Great ideas to bring home.
Body Ball
The entire class is done with the use of a Fit Ball. This session begins with basic aerobic movements to warm-up. Then all exercises
are done with the use of a Fit Ball. Use of weights and bands are incorporated in this class while on the ball. The ball strengthens the
core of the body.
Circuit Training
A class utilizing our Tuff Stuff equipment. The various stations will focus on individual muscle groups. A Personal Trainer leads this
class to insure proper alignment and weights. You will work the entire body.
Mat Pilates
This class focuses on the “core of the body”. A specific flow of exercises will work the shoulders, back, abdominal, buttock and thigh
muscle groups. Each posture is focused and controlled with breath. Continued practice will strengthen the abdominal and back
muscles. You will feel the difference even after one class. The use of a Fit Ball is incorporated with some postures.
Water Classes
Aqua Fit
The use of water weights enables a nice workout in the water. Some classes will utilize ankle weights for lower body. The use of
noodles and/or a beach ball are also sometimes incorporated. Some cardio is incorporated as well. A great all body workout!
Yoqua
Yoga in the water is very soothing. A great way to stretch the entire body. Stretching and toning are the clear focus in this class lead by
a certified yoga teacher. You will feel the difference in the water.
Spiritual Program
The spiritual program at The Spa at Grand Lake provides classes to meet the needs of beginner, intermediate and advanced students in
Yoga, Tai Chi and Qigong.
Our daily yoga classes incorporate Eastern healing for healthy minds and bodies. You will experience long lasting effects from reduced
stress, increased flexibility, proper organ function and clearer mind. Start every day with yoga and finish most nights with yoga. Our
various certified and well seasoned teachers bring yoga to you from various backgrounds and styles. Join in any class at anytime.
Evening yoga ends with a 25 minute guided meditation. A great way to start or end your day.
Tai Chi & Qigong are added on some days to compliment your overall workout. This class is very healing to the mind and body.
These classes are easy to follow and promote wellness at its best. A great experience to reduce stress.
Hiking & Walking
We provide supervised walks every morning and afternoon. The morning walk is more brisk and takes you about 2.5 miles. The
afternoon walk is a casual walk (walk & talk) for approximately one mile on the spa property.
Hiking is provided three times weekly to local state parks. These can be anywhere between 3 to 5 miles in duration. Beginner and
intermediate trails are available. This is decided with each group prior to departure. Layers of clothes are recommended for all hikes.
Hiking shoes are optional. Insect repellent and bottled water is provided. You will enjoy the beautiful surroundings in the Connecticut
woods.
